BATHROOM REMODELS

Primary and Main Bathroom Remodel in Madison, WI

Need

The homeowners of this Highpoint Estates residence sought updates for their primary and main bathrooms. The existing designs, tailored to the previous owner, no longer met the aesthetic and functional preferences of the new homeowners.

Working with our design team, emphasis was placed on elevating both aesthetics and functionality. Although the existing shower was functional, it lacked warmth and sufficient sprays. The placement of the soaking tub on the deck posed challenges to window access, and the pedestal sinks proved insufficient in terms of countertop space and storage.

Solution

By removing walls and introducing a glass partition, we transformed the shower into a brighter, more spacious sanctuary with additional sprays. Pedestal sinks, while unique, were replaced with more practical vanities, addressing the need for increased countertop and storage space.

In addition to a new free-standing tub and glass-enclosed walk-in shower, the design details in this primary bathroom showcase a harmonious blend of style and functionality. The new custom double vanity with a five-piece flat panel door style is topped with Cambria Brittanicca quartz and matched with the custom linen cabinet and built-ins.

The bath floor is laid with Interceramic Railwood flooring, arranged in an elegant herringbone pattern, providing a timeless and sophisticated touch. The shower walls boast Happy Floors Salt Stone Porcelain Tile in a 12” x 24” layout, accentuated by a striking Verdon VER-4 glacier hexagon strip, creating a visually stunning focal point. The shower floor features Daltile Color Wheel hexagon tile in a matte architectural gray, adding texture and depth. The brushed nickel accessories and plumbing fixtures contribute a refined finish, completing the overall aesthetic with a touch of contemporary elegance.

Result

In this stunning remodel of the primary and main bathrooms, we enhanced the shower by creating a brighter sanctuary with additional sprays. Unique pedestal sinks were replaced with practical vanities, providing increased countertop and storage space. Elegant design details contribute to a sophisticated aesthetic, elevating the entire space with contemporary elegance.

Primary Bathroom Remodel with Waterfall Edge in Madison, WI

Need

Our clients in the Village of Shorewood Hills, Madison, WI, were in need of a primary bathroom remodel, mirroring the finishes of their North Carolina home. The project included transforming the tub shower into a “modified” wet room/area.

The space is completed with Rift White Oak cabinetry in a Nude Creme finish, complemented by a stunning Cambria Ironsbridge countertop featuring a waterfall edge.

BATHROOM REMODELS

Main Bathroom and Primary Closet Remodel in Madison, WI Historic Home

Need

The homeowners of this historic craftsman-style home contacted Sweeney Design Remodel to improve the aesthetics and functionality of their main bathroom and primary closet.

The primary bathroom on the second floor caters to the needs of a family of four, providing services for both adults and children. As the sole bathroom on the second floor, it required a transformation with updated finishes and improved storage solutions. The renovation involved the removal of the tub to make way for a more functional and contemporary shower, while a bathtub was retained in the basement for added convenience and resale value.

Solution

Our design team enhanced the bathroom space by repositioning the shared wall between the bathroom and the primary closet, creating a more spacious and functional layout. The toilet was strategically relocated to optimize the space, and a new shower was installed for an upgraded bathing experience.

Crafted with an exquisite touch, the bathroom showcases Seville semi-custom cabinetry, adorned in a captivating Blue Peacock hue and featuring the elegant Chateau door style.

Accentuating the cabinets are Anthropologie – Demeter cabinet knobs in a refined bronze finish, creating a visually striking contrast. The cabinets are crowned with Ishnala quartz countertops, adding a touch of timeless beauty. The shower, thoughtfully designed, features a custom niche and is adorned in Carrollton Matte White 3×6 tile, complemented by a black Carrollton hexagon tile on the shower floor. Completing the look, the bathroom floor boasts a Matte Arctic White tile with a chic Matte Black Accent strip border.

Additionally, a redesign of the primary closet involved adjusting the entrance and enhancing the closet components for improved accessibility and organization.

Challenges

Addressing the bathroom’s unique constraints posed a few challenges, including a non-negotiable window size, confined space due to multiple doors (entry, shower, and vanity area), and the need to relocate the toilet. This required modifications to the floor framing and first-floor entry, which involved repairs and reframing of the subfloor and joists. Furthermore, straightening walls and ceilings in the bathroom for new finishes was essential. To accommodate structural changes, additional framing was implemented following engineer drawings to support the removal of a load-bearing wall.

Result

Achieving a transformative outcome, the final bathroom and primary closet remodel boasts an abundance of storage solutions and radiates with a brighter ambiance, adorned in contemporary and updated finishes that elevate the overall aesthetic.

Guest Bathroom Condo Remodel in Madison, WI

Need

These Madison homeowners needed a condominium update to align it with their lifestyle and preferences, distinct from the previous owner’s choices. In addition to the kitchen remodel, their needs encompassed modest updates to the guest bathroom to include new flooring, paint, an updated shower, vanity and countertop.

Solution

The guest bathroom saw a stunning transformation of its own. The existing vanity was skillfully painted to harmonize with the kitchen’s color palette. Moreover, it received an upgrade with a new Cambria – Brittanica quartz countertop and fresh lighting, culminating in a unified and polished aesthetic.

In addition to these enhancements, the bathroom was treated to new floor tile, tub/shower surround tile, shower fixtures (the tub was retained), and a sleek glass shower screen.

Result

The result is a guest bathroom that exudes elegance and cohesion. The skillful painting of the existing vanity, now beautifully coordinated with the kitchen’s color scheme, complements the sophisticated ambiance. BATHROOMS

Primary Suite, Main Bathroom, and Powder Room Remodel in Madison, WI

Need

The homeowners in this Cape Cod Colonial home wanted to update the fixtures and finishes in all three areas—the primary suite, main bathroom, and powder room.

The primary bathroom’s pedestal sink lacked sufficient storage or counter space.  The finishes (tile, fixtures, and shower doors) needed to be updated.

The primary bedroom was above the garage within the roof system, so the sloped roof lines provided a unique architectural element that defined the space.  The bedroom had two walk-in closets, but one was tucked into the roofline, which made it difficult to make use of the space.  The other closet was sufficient in space for one person’s clothing but not two. The clients needed either one large, functional walk-in closet or two smaller closets.

Due to the width of the powder room, the sink needed to be uniquely sourced and customized to fit the style and space of the room.

Solution

In designing a solution for the primary bedroom suite, Sweeney Design Remodel provided two options: 1) Enlarge the existing closet by taking space from the bedroom, or 2) Design custom cabinetry into the closet (roof), which would provide ample storage and be accessible from the bedroom. These Madison homeowners chose option #2.

In the primary and main bathrooms, we designed custom cabinetry (built and designed to look original) into the space that fit the homeowners’ design style while providing the additional storage and counter space they needed and matched the home’s original architecture.

Our lead carpenter’s talented skills allowed us to custom-design and match the existing trim in the newly remodeled areas, preserving the home’s architectural integrity.

Result

Our clients are thrilled with their remodeled spaces. The custom cabinetry provides them with the additional closet space they need without taking space away from their bedroom. The finishes are fresh and up-to-date, fitting beautifully with the home’s original architecture.

“We are so pleased with our new Sweeney created spaces!! They are great communicators, problem-solvers, and great craftspeople. They are also respectful. Plain and simple…they are great people. I miss having them at our home.”

A Powder Room Remodel in Madison, WI

Need

This powder room remodel was part of a larger remodeling project to include the kitchen and mudroom. The homeowners desired a complete update to the existing powder room’s dark and outdated finishes and wanted increased storage.

Solution

Sweeney Design Remodel updated all the finishes, including the flooring and wallpaper. We replaced a pedestal sink and wall-hung cabinet with a beautiful Mexican-painted sink the clients had collected and set it on a wooden vanity. Glacier-white granite was featured on the powder bath vanity. The floor was replaced with a terracotta-colored hexagon tile that complemented the ornate sink, and indigo wallpaper with a subtle botanical print tied the room together. A stunning crystal chandelier offered another focal point for the space. For storage, we added matching corner cabinets with granite countertops.

Result

Improvements to the powder room completed the modern aesthetic and utility that the homeowners wanted and allowed them to insert their personalities. The overall remodel exceeded their expectations!

BATHROOMS

Designed for Relaxation: A Transitional Master Bathroom,
Hall Bath and Laundry Room Remodel in Fitchburg, WI

Challenge

This Fitchburg family approached Sweeney Design Remodel with a strong desire to transform their outdated master bathroom, hall bath, and laundry room into a more spacious, functional, comfortable space with modern conveniences and amenities.

The master bathroom was poorly laid out. Typical of homes in this era, it had a large whirlpool tub, laminate countertops, carpet, and a small modular shower. It also had low, dated cabinets and no room for a makeup station.

The laundry room consisted of a large closet that divided the mudroom and laundry.  It was cramped, dated, and lacked the versatility of a multi-functional mudroom/utility room with ample storage capacity.

Solution

Master Bathroom
Without changing the master bath footprint, the size of the room felt more spacious by removing the soffit above the existing vanity. The dated cabinets were replaced with custom new cabinets made from walnut with front slab drawers and finished in a deep rich stain. A custom makeup vanity was added to the space and finished in the same beautiful color— complete with a flip-top mirror, electrical outlets, and built-in lighting. Cambria Quartz countertops, modern fixtures, wood-wrapped mirrors, perfectly placed contemporary sconces and a large porcelain tile backsplash complete the look. Last but not least, the spa-inspired shower was designed with tile, Kohler Devonshire & Purist shower fixtures, dual shower niches, and a built-in shower seat. In addition, the old carpet was removed and replaced with Amalfi 12’x24′ stone tile in a ‘Bianco Scala’ color.

Hall Bathroom
The family bathroom received a contemporary refresh that mirrored the master bath. The same Cambria Quartz countertop and custom cabinetry was chosen for a seamless look throughout the home. The shower includes a rolling-style glass door, large format tile, a custom bench, and Kohler fixtures.

Laundry/Mudroom
Designing the ultimate multi-purpose laundry and mudroom required a clean slate. This meant gutting the space and reconfiguring the layout.

Plenty of storage was designed into the room, including a wall of cabinets above the washer and dryer and a fantastic gift-wrapping station with handy gift paper rods and open shelving. The custom shaker-style cabinetry is finished in a medium stain and topped with a durable and easy to maintain Corian solid surface countertop in an ‘Abalone’ color.

One wall was designed with a ‘Slatwall’ by ProSlat. This creative wall system allows for endless variations of hooks and shelving to ensure the family’s coats, backpacks, and other items are stored up and out of the way but still within easy reach.

The floor is finished with a Trento tile called ‘Seaside Cliffs’ and adds a rustic touch to the space. A side-by-side washer and dryer, Hazelton undermount sink and stainless steel ceiling fan finish out this amazing transformation.

Result

Clean, organized and even beautiful, this laundry room renovation resulted in a bright and cheery place for our clients to leave their coats and shoes, and wash their clothes. The light-filled bathrooms provided just the right balance of form and function they needed, now a place to relax in comfort after a long day.

“Sweeney recently did a full basement remodel for us. When we bought our house in 2001, we knew we would need to do major remodeling. We first worked with Sweeney in 2004 to gut and remodel our kitchen as well as do a refresh (new windows, siding, wood floor refinish, etc). We were so pleased with the quality and professionalism provided by Sweeney that we have since hired them to gut and remodel two bathrooms, replace all the doors, and now gut and remodel our basement. Tim Sweeney and all the Sweeney staff are great to work with, and they stand behind their work. In our experience, they do a good job of budgeting (can’t blame them for our change requests!) and stick to their schedule.”

Contemporary Master Suite Addition in Sun Prairie, WI

Challenge

Our clients in Sun Prairie, WI had their sights set on designing and building an ADA-compliant master suite addition complete with modern amenities and improved traffic flow. Some must-haves included a walk-in closet, contemporary bathroom fixtures, and a seating area with a fireplace.

This remodel was part of a 2-story home addition which included a complete basement renovation (see the results).

Solution

To stay within ADA guidelines, the large walk-in shower was built with a zero clearance threshold.  Large oversize neutral tiles line the walls for a dramatic effect. The dual vanity is installed at a reduced-height and includes wheelchair access and a seated vanity area.  The drop in soaking tub includes grab-bars for easy entry and exit.

The large walk-in closet includes an extra-wide doorway and plenty of custom built-in storage.  The serene bedroom has plenty of windows for lots of natural light and a comfortable seating area with a stunning slab fireplace surrounded with additional custom cabinetry for plenty of storage.

Result

Our clients thoroughly enjoy their beautiful master suite every day and couldn’t be more satisfied with the results.

Sweeney Design Remodel did a wonderful job on our home. We were nervous about remodeling because of a previous bad experience with a different builder. Sweeney listened to all of our concerns and communicated timely and accurately to us the project expectations. Our project was roughly 2,800 SF which included a master bedroom suite addition and finishing our basement. Patrick, the lead carpenter, and the rest of the field team were a pleasure to have in our house and respectful of keeping the work area tidy. The quality and detail of their work is very good. Our project manager, Lane, was always attentive to our questions or needs. We were regularly briefed on the project schedule and anything that arose during the construction process. We cannot recommend Tim, Linda, and the whole Sweeney team enough!”

Historic Condo Bathroom Remodel in Downtown Madison, WI

Challenge

Renovating a condominium presents several unique challenges, some of which include association permissions, hours in which the work can be carried out, how debris is disposed, parking and trade access, etc. For this particular project, we were also unable to change the plumbing behind the walls.

Our clients wanted to remove the existing bathtub and replace it with a large, luxurious walk-in shower.

Solution

As a design-build firm experienced with historic renovations and condo bathroom remodels, Sweeney carefully evaluated the existing floorplan and acquired the necessary permits to modify the bathroom tub wall. This was necessary to enlarge the space and make room for the new, larger walk-in shower, without having to move the plumbing. Adding function and beauty, we transformed the tired old bathtub space into a spa-like shower, designed with Chevron mosaic tile, Delta fixtures, and a Schluter system. New Cambria countertops, Caliber custom cabinetry and Surface Matrix tile with a glass crackle mosaic border complete the look of this luxurious, timeless historic bathroom remodel.

Result

Our clients are ecstatic about the improved functionality and beauty of their new in-home spa retreat. They received the grandiose shower they thought would be impossible to build within their existing space.

“The whole staff at Sweeney has always been prompt, professional, honest and reliable. They pay attention to details on all projects from our ‘handyman’ needs to larger projects. Matt even came out on his day off to help us out with an unexpected issue. That’s service!”

Spa-Inspired Primary Bathroom Remodel in Maple Bluff Madison, WI

Challenge

This young couple’s primary bathroom was spacious but lacked the level of finishes and luxury they wanted in a spa-inspired retreat. After living for years with an inefficient layout, outdated fixtures, tiny shower, inadequate tub, and even an under-utilized bidet, Sweeney was hired to turn their bathroom into an elegant and functional room of relaxation and comfort—to enjoy for many years to come.

Solution

To achieve the result our client wanted, the Sweeney design team reconfigured the space using the existing footprint. We created three separate but combined areas for a new Japanese soaking tub, spacious walk-in shower and trough sink, providing the functional “wet space” amenities our clients asked for. Also important to our client was individualized shower choices. As a result, the shower was upgraded with a Kohler multi shower head system. An enclosed toilet area and a separate his and hers closet space rounded out this beautiful primary bathroom remodel.

Rich tones and clean lines were used throughout the space complimented by touches of glitz, incorporating Trento mosaic Dal Tile flooring, Dura Supreme Crestwood semi-custom cabinetry, Meganite solid surface 811 South Beach Boulder countertops, and a Neptune Osaka Whirlpool tub.

Result

This family now relaxes in a lap of luxury, enjoying the beautiful view from their master suite without any visible distractions.

“Sweeney did an amazing job on my bathtub. They even noticed details of the job that would need attention, before I even signed a contract, which other contractors didn’t even think to look at. It made me feel confident from the get go. They stayed in contact with me throughout the project. In the end I noticed one thing that wasn’t to my satisfaction and they took care of it in a very timely matter. I’m truly impressed! Thank you Sweeney.”
